Avril Daly has worked for the Irish charity Fighting Blindness since June 2000. As Head of Public Affairs she was responsible for raising awareness of retinal degenerative diseases including, Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and other rare disorders. Avril is now General Manager of Fighting Blindness, responsible for the continuation of the charities significant research portfolio and to ensure the development of the Fighting Blindness Vision Research Institute – FBVRI.Avril represents Retina Europe on the board of the European Platform for Patients' Organisations, Science and Industry (EPPOSI) and the Genetic and Rare Disorders Organisation (GRDO). She represents Ireland on the Eurordis Council of National Alliances and on its board of directors. She is currently an advisor to EUROPLAN, an EU Commission initiative to establish national plans for Rare Diseases throughout the EU's Member States.
