EU Health Strategy

The EU White Paper: Together for Health: A strategic approach for the EU 2008-2013 is the first attempt to have a coherent long-term strategy for health in the European Union.
Based on shared values, the strategy promotes several fundamental principles like: health as the greatest wealth, health in all policies, strengthening the EU voice in global health.

Strategic Objectives

1. Fostering good health in an ageing Europe
Measures to promote the health of older people and the workforce; actions on children and young people’s health
Actions on tobacco, nutrition, alcohol, mental health and other broader environemental and socioeconomic factors affecting health

2. Protecting the citizens from health threats
Strengthen mechanisms for surveillance and response to health threats
Health aspects on adaptation to climate change

3. Supporting dynamic health systems and new technologies
Community framework for safe, high quality and efficient health services
Support Member States in managing innovation in health systems
Support implementation and interoperability of e-health solutions in health systems

The Financial instruments for the Strategy are the Community Action Programme in the field of Health (2008-2013) and other EU programmes likeSeventh Research Framework Programme, etc.
