Dystonia Europe is the European umbrella organisation for the neurological movement disorder dystonia, a chronic condition that causes involuntary muscle contractions. Dystonia Europe's members consist of 20 national member associations from 18 European countries, which represent approximately 15 000 dystonia patients in Europe. Dystonia Europe was founded in 1993. Dystonia Europe is the European Platform for all dystonia stakeholders in Europe. Its vision is to improve quality of life for dystonia patients. By connecting people for dystonia across Europe, they aim to: raise awareness spread information promote research support lobbying and advocacy add value to the work of the national dystonia associations

Disease area: Dystonia. Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder that causes continuous muscle contractions, leading to twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures. Dystonia can affect just one part of the body or be generalized throughout multiple muscle groups. Dystonia affects men, women, and children of all ages and backgrounds. It is the third most common movement disorder, after Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor.
