Get involved in optimal patient blood management!

If your organisation has a particular interest in blood products, we have two opportunities to get involved and cooperate with the European Blood Alliance (EBA).

  • On 12 April 2018, the EBA is celebrating its 20th anniversary in Helsinki, and they are looking for a patient representative to take part in the panel discussion titled “Future challenges for the sustainability of blood supply”, where the patient’s role in safeguarding and improving healthcare will be discussed. Panellist will be asked to do a brief opening remark (one slide); and travel and accommodation will be covered. See the invitation of the event here.
  • The EBA is organising the Consensus Conference on Patient Blood Management on 24 and 25 April in Frankfurt, and they are looking for one or two patient representatives for three sessions: I. Preoperative anaemia; II. Red Blood Cell transfusion triggers; III. Education and implementation of Patient Blood Management. See the programme here and the summary.

Please note that the Consensus Conference is a more scientific and detailed opportunity, so there is the option that the same patient representative could eventually attend both events, and the anniversary conference would serve as the sort of introduction to that person to the EBA community and to the issues. In any case, the patient representatives attending the Consensus Conference should familiarise themselves with the GRADE process. (Find below in ‘Related information’ some background documents).

If you are interested in participating in any or both events, please get in touch with Kari Aranko from EBA (k.aranko@europeanbloodalliance.eu) as soon as possible and by the end of January.
