Just a Few Days Before our 1st Summer Training Course for Young Patients Advocates!

©EPF

Ensuring the sustainability and future of patient advocacy is very close to EPF’s heart. By providing a 3-day training to young patients, our Summer Training Course will empower the next generation of patient’s advocates and leaders. The first edition is just a week ahead!

The Summer Training Course for Young Patients Advocates encourages young patients and young patient representatives to share their experiences, exchange good practices and seek solutions to common challenges. Part of the EPF Capacity Building Programme, the training course aims to create a vibrant platform where young patients’ advocates will inspire and learn from each other.

For its very first edition, the 3-day training event will take place in Vienna, Austria from 2nd to 5th July 2017. The programme of the Summer Training Course for Young Patient Advocates - Leadership Programme 2017 is inspired by EPF core values:

  • Patients’ empowerment;
  • Patients’ involvement;
  • Sustainability of patient organisations.

Overcoming Discrimination

The theme of this year’s training course is: Overcoming Discrimination and will focus on self-leadership, patient advocacy and the role of patient’ organisations. The agenda will also cover key areas such as human rights, discrimination and campaigns development with external speakers from the EPF Youth Group, the European Agency for Fundamental Rights and health experts who will share their expertise and views on young patient’s advocacy.

39 participants from 19 to 31 years old, representing 20 European counties have successfully passed the selection phase (out of 92 applicants). Most of them are young advocates committed to patient organisations, with expertise on specific young patient topics, such as discrimination, access to job market, sexual health, mobility, etc.

By discussing and exploring common issues, the participants will optimise their advocacy impact within their countries, and strengthen their organisations’ legitimacy in young patients’ issues.

The Summer Training Course for Young Patient Advocates – Leadership Programme bears many hopes and expectations for EPF and its members. This training programme has the potential to tutor and develop the next generation of patient advocates, ensuring the sustainability of the European patient movement!
