Data Saves Lives

Data Saves Lives is an exciting new initiative hosted by the EPF secretariat, and managed by our newest colleague Gözde Susuzlu Briggs. Representatives from several organisations active in the field of digital health are combining forces to address the challenges and opportunities relating to health data.

The aim of the initiative is twofold. On the one hand it will create a health data community, a “safe space” where stakeholders can openly discuss their views and ideas on data and data policy at European and national level. The full potential of the use of health data will be analysed, along with the potential challenges and risks this. At the same time the core of the initiative is the development of an informative web platform that will provide lay-language information for patients and citizens who need neutral, understandable and comprehensive information on the topic of health data.

For this work, EPF will rely on the full support of various partners. The European Institute for Innovation through Health Data (i~HD) is our content partner. A strong collaboration has been established with Understanding Patient Data, an initiative functioning along similar lines, but with a focus on the UK, which will allow us to build on their expertise and experience. Seed funding is provided by EFPIA, and EIT Health; other institutions and organisations have expressed an interest in financially supporting it. Academic and research bodies, patient organisations, and industry are contributing to this initiative too, as are high-level representatives of a dedicated Advisory Group and various experts making up our Editorial Board.
